Hibs: Colin Calderwood praises Yogi player policy

COLIN CALDERWOOD today praised the quality of player that John Hughes brought to Easter Road - but admitted that Hibs must plug the gaps that have cost them so dear this season.

The new Hibs manager has taken his players for three training sessions since his arrival at the club on Monday night and is beginning to familiarise himself with the squad.

He has been impressed by the overall standard running through the side, however, in the three games prior to last weekend's win over Kilmarnock, the Easter Road side have conceded seven goals.

Calderwood knows that kind of statistic will have to improve but he believes he has enough quality players to get them back on track. "No matter when you start, you would always like another training session," he said.

"Luckily I've managed three ahead of the game tomorrow, which is a little bit of a help.

"But I think that we will develop more and more as the weeks and the games go by.

"You do get a good bit out of the training, you can get some good principles into the players and you can see that they have got a first-class attitude.

"They are very willing to be out there in training - and impress the new manager.

"You can see that John has got a lot of decent footballers at this club but we have got to make sure that the goals against column starts to reduce quickly and that we continue on from where we left off against Kilmarnock last weekend."

Calderwood, who is unlikely to name his assistant until next week, could have Ian Murray available again after six weeks out, while Derek Riordan should shake off a calf problem in time for the lunchtime kick-off against Aberdeen tomorrow.
