Hibs: Cillian Sheridan knew pay policy

Colin Calderwood has insisted Cillian Sheridan knew exactly what was on offer at Easter Road before he arrived on trial.

The former Celtic striker impressed the Hibs boss during the nine days he spent training with Hibs, the 22-year-old scoring in a 3-1 win over East Fife and playing again in what turned out to be a closed doors match against Barnsley.

Sheridan, however, has now returned to Bulgaria where he is under contract to CSKA Sofia for another two years although the Republic of Ireland star is anxious to negotiate a move - possibly on loan - elsewhere having previously gone on trial with two MLS clubs in the United States.

There has been speculation that a disparity in Sheridan's wages and what Hibs can afford means any possible move to Edinburgh is off, but Hibs boss Calderwood claims the player, his club and agent were all aware of the parameters in which they were working.

Having been reduced to just one recognised striker following the knee injury which has knocked Akpo Sodje out of the opening matches of the new SPL season, Calderwood, who had already identified his frontline as in need of

strengthening, is keen to bring in a new forward before the visit of Celtic on Sunday if possible.

Calderwood has already admitted he's interested in "doing something" with Sheridan, who is said to have been impressed by Hibs during his stay and open to the possibility of a loan move.

He said: "Cillian knows what I think of him, I spoke to him and he knows our situation. There's another club to take care of, we only had the opportunity (to look at Sheridan] because they have been quite flexible in allowing him to come over. Whether they would let him come over full-time is very much up in the air."

When asked about the possibility of a loan deal, Calderwood replied: "We have told the agent the level and what we would expect. He understands that. If he has come or has been forced in this direction and thinks it is something different then we have wasted everyone's time. But I do not think that is the case."
