Hibs boss weighing up move for his Lithuanian trialist

Hibs boss John Hughes today revealed he'll make a decision on whether to move for Lithuanian internationalist Valdas Trakys over the weekend.

The 31-year-old hitman impressed in a bounce match against Dundee United earlier in the week and is keen to have his future thrashed out before he returns to his homeland on Sunday.

Hughes, who has made no secret of the fact he would like to add to his attacking options despite having brought in Darryl Duffy following Anthony Stokes' move to Celtic, admitted Trakys had done his chances no harm during his stay in Edinburgh. He said: "He did well in the bounce game, he's a typical big target man, a centre-forward who uses his body well, links up play and his attitude has been fantastic.

"He's a bit short on his fitness but all he needs are games and he did enough in the bounce match for me to say 'well done'. I've been impressed by what I have seen so far, he's shown plenty of enthusiasm, got himself involved and that tells you all about his attitude and commitment.

"I still think we are a bit short up front and he does have experience. We'll continue to look closely at him over the next couple of days. I think he has also been impressed by what he has seen, he's a clever boy and having talked to him he knew what he was coming to thanks to the wonders of the internet.

"He goes home on Sunday morning but he's obviously keen to get his own future sorted out as soon as possible."

Trakys is available as a free agent having walked out on Greek club Panserraikos after they breached his contract. He's a well-travelled player having starred for 11 clubs in all, in his homeland, where he was top scorer in the A Lyga two years ago, Belgium, Russia, Iceland, Germany and Azerbaijan before landing in Macedonia.

Hughes insisted Trakys' nationality would pose no problems despite Capital rivals Hearts strong links with Lithuania, saying: "I spoke to him about it and he had a wee laugh.

"He knows most of the boys over there and played with Kaunas many years ago."
