Hibs boss to try out Czech keeper

Czech goalkeeper Jakub Divis will get his first taste of SPL action in Saturday's Easter Road clash with St Johnstone, Hibs boss Colin Calderwood revealed today. The 25-year-old arrived in Edinburgh during the January transfer window on a year-long loan deal from Slovakian outfit Tatran Presov to vie with Graham Stack, Mark Brown and Graeme Smith for the No.?1 spot.

But the 6ft 5in stopper has had to be patient as Calderwood has given his three rivals the opportunity to prove themselves to him, his only appearance to date being in last month's friendly against Irish side Bohemians.

However, Calderwood, who has released Smith and has yet to decide whether or not to offer Stack a new contract, has decided the time is right to give Divis the opportunity to impress.

While Divis will undoubtedly hope he sees more action than he did during his 90 minutes against Bohemians, the former Czech Under-21 star virtually idle apart from facing a penalty in what turned out to be a 2-1 win, Saints have failed to score in more than 1000 minutes of SPL football.

Their dismal record continued in a 3-0 defeat by Inverness at McDiarmid Park on Monday but Calderwood insisted that despite the statistics Derek McInnes' side were anything but shot-shy, predicting that an opposition team will "cop it" from Saints at some point.

Although obviously hoping that doesn't prove to be during Hibs' penultimate home game of the season, Calderwood said: "Saints are dangerous because there is nothing negative about the way they play.

"They have good crossers of the ball, they are good at set plays and in open play."

And despite Monday's defeat, one which leaves the Perth outfit three points adrift of Hibs in the battle with Caley for seventh place, Calderwood insisted the final scoreline didn't reflect proceedings, claiming Inverness had been forced to defend well although Saints had also been guilty of missed opportunities.

Divis was given the news he'd start his first competitive match at training this morning, Calderwood saying: "We need to have a look at him and this is a good opportunity."
