Hibs boss to search England for number 2

HIBS boss Colin Calderwood has given his strongest hint yet that he will look to England in his search for a number two to assist him.

Calderwood was flying solo as he went into today's game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie, although he admitted he would rely heavily on both Gareth Evans and Alistair Stevenson – who took temporary charge of the side after John Hughes left the club – in the dugout.

Calderwood has been impressed by the duo's knowledge of the game in Scotland and believes that can be a valuable asset for him.

Having played out his entire career in England, and also managed there, Calderwood has a huge contacts book of possible candidates and he said: "I think that if I bring someone in from Scotland, I am only going to be getting the same thing as I can get at the moment from Gareth and Alistair. The people here are very capable of giving me all of that kind of thing, so the next thing for me is to decide who would be the best person to work alongside the three of us and the players."

Adding of the possibility of a Scottish assistant, he continued: "I did think about it first but then bypassed it when I saw the people that we have got here and the knowledge that they have."

Calderwood expects to be able to name an assistant some time next week and revealed that there has been a great deal of interest in the position from friends and former colleagues.

"There are two or three people in my mind, but it is very open at the moment – and one or two who are at clubs, so that might bring some issues with it. There has been direct contact from people I know or agents who are ringing me up and saying that they have got people who would love to do a job for me. I am in no rush, though. Hopefully, next week we might have progressed a little bit.

"There has been enough going on to keep me occupied, although I know in the back of my mind that we do need someone else in because it will be a real addition and a help to everyone here."
