Hibs boss mulls trialist bids

Hibs boss John Hughes today revealed he's mulling over moves for Slovenian hitman Darijo Biscan and Dutch striker Romano Denneboom after taking the pair on trial at Easter Road.

Although 24-year-old Biscan and Denneboom have now returned to their respective homelands, Hughes insisted he's still weighing up whether to offer a contract to either of them.

Biscan played for Koper last season as they lifted their first Slovenian title but was surprisingly released by coach Nedzad Okcic and, like 29-year-old former FC Twente star Denneboom, is now a free agent.

Hughes said today: "The both did quite well although they are still looking for a bit of fitness. They've gone back home at the moment while we are still looking about. It will then be a case of sitting down and deciding what has to be done."

Hughes, though, has made no secret of the fact he'd like to add a further forward to his squad to complement what is already a formidable strikeforce, Anthony Stokes, Derek Riordan and Colin Nish having claimed more than 50 goals between them last season.

Riordan believes his 17 strikes should have been enough to earn him a Scotland call from Craig Levein only for the new Scotland boss to have overlooked him for his first two matches in charge, the former Hearts manager telling the Hibs star he needs to work harder defensively for that to happen.

But Hughes believes he has detected a new approach to his game from Riordan.

He said: "Having played against Craig's teams I can understand where he is coming from, everyone all working together. Derek is more of a talisman but I can say that since I have come to the club he has been a joy to work with.

"He has his own style but once you work with him you realise he has a very good understanding of the game. You saw his performance second half on Saturday in his delivery to set up the goals.

"If he keeps working hard, then I am sure it will happen."
