Hibs boss glad to see goals spread about

JOHN HUGHES has watched his much-vaunted strikeforce claim just one of the five goals scored by Hibs so far this season - and the Easter Road boss couldn't be more delighted.

Although Anthony Stokes, Derek Riordan as well as Colin Nish netted more than 50 times between them last season, in the two-legged Europa Cup affair with NK Maribor and the opening SPL match against Motherwell only the Republic of Ireland hitman has got his name on the scoresheet.

But while convinced the trio will prove as deadly as ever over the coming months, Hughes admitted he'd been more than happy to see others get among the goals with new signing Edwin de Graaf claiming two with fellow midfielder Liam Miller and defender Paul Hanlon netting one apiece.

He said: "Obviously we were very happy with the goals our strikers got last season and we know there will be plenty more from them this time round. However, we had touched upon the need to get more goals from other areas of the park.

"We certainly need more from midfield and I think we have the players that can do that. Edwin has already shown that in Europe and Liam is another who can get into the opposition penalty area. I was also delighted to see us score a couple from set-pieces at Fir Park, again that's something we feel we were lacking a bit last season."

Meanwhile, Hughes has revealed he won't be making a move for Slovenian striker Darijo Biscan as he pursues other targets following the 24-year-old's trial. He said: "We are sniffing about one or two other things. Biscan was a good lad but he could have done with being a bit fitter."
