Hawks kept up their top flight title challenge with a bonus point win over Heriot's. In Grant Strang, Kris Hamilton and Dean Kelbrick, the visitors had the best players on the pitch and they started with real intent.

After some fine passing between forwards and backs they were awarded a penalty after five minutes.

Mike Adamson converted it, but four minutes later Heriot's levelled things up through a Graham Wilson penalty. And it was soon 9-3 to the hosts thanks to another two Wilson penalties.

Hawks then scored 15 unanswered points to go ahead 18-9. Among those points were two well-worked tries, the first by young Craig Gossman and then club international centre Kelbrick also went over.

Wilson kicked his fourth penalty of the half in the 32nd minute for Heriot's as the visitors took a six point lead into the break.

On 45 minutes Heriot's back-row Jason Hill was sin-binned, and, from the resultant scrum, Hawks' forward power told with Strang scoring a converted try.

However, just as Hill returned to the field ten minutes later, Hawks' David Milne was yellow- carded and Wilson struck his fifth penalty for Heriot's.

The clinching try for Hawks came in the 71st minute - seconds after Ross Miller had been held up over the line Strang wriggled his way over before a late Heriot's consolation.
