Hearts sign Evaldas Razulis from Kaunas as Kevin Kyle's deputy

HEARTS have signed 6ft 3in striker Evaldas Razulis on loan from FBK Kaunas as cover for Kevin Kyle, who has been struggling to shake off an injury. The 24-year-old, who was recently on loan with Skonto Riga of Latvia before he returned to Kaunas, has joined for the rest of the season.

Kyle's absence in recent games has deprived Hearts of their one recognised target man, and, while they have still won matches without him, they have at times lacked the same impact up front. The arrival of Razulis would allow them to play in a similar style as with Kyle in the team.

"I had the chance to bring him here and I thought it was a good idea to have a look at him in case Kevin Kyle was to be out for any length of time," Hearts manager Jim Jefferies said.

"We're hopeful Kevin will be fit for Hamilton (a week on Saturday], but Evaldas is a big, strong striker in a similar style to Kevin.

"He's a bit short of match fitness at the moment, but we'll get the chance to have a look at him over the next few weeks and he might be able to do us a turn."

Razulis made the move on transfer-deadline day, but Hearts only announced the news on their website yesterday. He was the club's sole recruit during the window.

Meanwhile, Hearts goalkeeper Marian Kello has been named in the Slovakian squad for the first time, and could make his debut in next week's friendly against Luxembourg. "Marian has been outstanding for us this season and his call-up is fully merited," Jefferies said.

"He has established himself as No 1 here and I'm really pleased for him.

"We have three good keepers here and two good young ones as well, so it is a department we are well covered in. I don't think anyone can deny that he is one of the top keepers in the league but, fingers crossed, he now gets the chance to show it at that level."
