Hearts fined £50,000 over discipline record

HEARTS today incurred a £50,000 fine from the Scottish Football Association for their poor disciplinary record last season, with a further £10,000 suspended until January pending good behaviour.

The Edinburgh club totalled 11 red cards last season and the SFA have acted following last year's 40,000 penalty meted out for indiscipline the season before.

Tynecastle officials were due to be notified of their punishment this morning in official correspondence from the SFA.

The fine follows hot on the heels of Michael Stewart's dismissal at Tannadice on Monday evening as Hearts lost 2-0 to Dundee United.

The club captain was ordered off for two bookable offences, but the SFA have promised to wait until the new year to see if Hearts' on-field discipline improves before implementing any further sanctions.
