Hearts: Final Answer

Would you welcome any expansion of the SPL or the introduction of play-offs?

Kevin Paterson, Gilmerton: "I think that most people would be in favour of league reconstruction – it would liven up the league. I think a 20-team league is best as a 16-team league wouldn't provide enough games if teams only played each other twice."

John Corbett, Newcraighall: "I wouldn't be in favour of any kind of play-off system but, if we increased the size of the league, it would be much more competitive and exciting for fans. Hopefully, all of the clubs are in favour of the proposals."

John Kidd, Merchiston: "I think that league reconstruction would be a big step in the right direction in trying to improve the standard of Scottish football. I think that the current setup is messy and the split does not work."

Robert Truman, Danderhall: "I think that the SPL is a bit stale and it is unfair on First Division clubs because it's so hard to get promoted. There are plenty of decent sides in the lower leagues who would do well in the SPL. I'd like to see us recreate the Premiership model of 20 teams with three teams going down."

Shaun Rolland, Saughton: "I would definitely welcome it. It'd be more entertaining for fans but I think that clubs like Kilmarnock would be unhappy at not getting the extra revenue from playing the Old Firm twice at home in the season so that could be a stumbling block."

Freddie Grant, Musselburgh: "It's good to see that the SPL is actually taking fans' opinions on board. I think allowing more teams into the SPL would be a good thing. I'd like to see a 16-team league introduced."

Michael Home, Tollcross: "I would definitely like to see a few changes made to Scottish football. Play-offs and league reconstruction would breathe new life into the game here and I support both ideas."

David Campbell, Fountainbridge: "A fresh approach and more teams could only be good for the game. The derby would be even more eagerly anticipated if we only played Hibs twice a season. I hope the top-six split is ditched. It's such a bad idea – we played Rangers three times at Ibrox last season but only once at Tynecastle, which shows how impractical it is."

Bob Jones, Fountainbridge: "I've never liked the play-offs as I think that it is unfair on clubs who have performed better over the course of the season. However, a league of between 16 and 20 teams would be excellent for fans."

Neil Livingstone, Shandon: "It would make the league more competitive. Teams like Hearts would have a much more realistic chance of winning the league in a 16-team league with less emphasis placed on beating the Old Firm."
