Hearts: Final Answer

Were Hearts right to offer Jose Goncalves a new contract worth £13,000 a week?

Steve Murray, East Calder: "I don't think we should have offered Jose such a big contract. It would have been a huge waste of money if he had signed it. We need to use the available money more sensibly."

Ewan Robertson, Cramond: "The club definitely should not be offering that kind of money. If we have imposed a wage cap, we need to stick to that. There shouldn't be any exceptions to that."

Craig Gillespie, Tollcross: "I think the plan was to lure Jose into signing on for big money so we could sell him on but that was always bad business. What would have happened if nobody had bought him?"

Matthew Adams, Newington: "It was a great offer from Hearts and I am glad to see us attempt to keep one of our best players at the club. That is definitely the best way forward for us to build a squad for next season."

Joe Johnstone, Merchiston: "There is no doubt that Jose is a good player but he is not good enough to merit that kind of offer. I would rather that he left and we brought in two or three decent players to bolster the squad."

Alex Murdoch, Leith: "I feel that we offered too much and, now that it is public knowledge, it could lead to problems in the summer. What will Vlad do if our summer targets start asking for big money?"

John Fox, Gorgie: "I think that Hearts did the right thing. Jose is a class act and nobody can say that we didn't make a serious attempt to keep him. It was a really good offer and it showed how much Jefferies wanted to keep him."

Neil Cameron, Oxgangs: "The club needs to look at ways to reduce costs. It was stupid to offer so much money to Jose. We need to consider more effective ways to use the funds that are available."

Gordon Stewart, Liberton: "I am actually quite pleased that Jose has turned down the offer that the club made him. I feel it would have been a big waste of money for the club and I hope we use the money to strengthen the squad in the summer."

David Milligan, Prestonpans: "Hearts definitely made a mistake by offering a deal on such good terms to Jose. I personally feel that he is not worth the offer we made him. The big money contracts should be a thing of the past. We need to learn our lesson because big money deals have been damaging in the past for us."
