Hearts: Fans' poll results are in

ALMOST three-quarters of Hearts supporters believe their side can repeat the success of last season by finishing in third spot and claim a place in the Europa League qualifiers.

And Derek Watson, chairman of the Hearts Supporters' Trust, admitted that he would be delighted if Csaba Laszlo's side could continue to progress in the manner they have done since the manager's arrival 12 months ago.

Our fans' poll revealed that 74.1 per cent of fans expect the Jambos to end the coming campaign in third spot and Watson reckons that Laszlo's contribution to the team has resulted in a new-found belief among players and supporters: "I would agree with that. The end result of last season – although there was a slight concern over a lack of goals –was a real boost in confidence among the players and supporters.

"I think that, overall, everyone was delighted with finishing third in the league and getting the European spot and it would be great if we could repeat that.

"Csaba has proven that he is a good manager, he has succeeded tactically and he also now has the bonus this season of having a year's experience of Scottish football under his belt."

While the majority of supporters are again concerned over where Hearts' goals will come from this season – 93.5 per cent said attack was the weakest part of the team – 74.1 per cent feel that the midfield remains the strongest area, despite the departure of Bruno Aguiar in the summer.

Watson added: "From what I have seen so far, the squad is at least as strong as it was last year, I think there is progression there.

"I think that we're looking strong in the middle and in defence and if they can help out with a few goals then that would be a massive boost for us.

"Up front is the area where most supporters will have a concern but I think the manager is still working to resolve that."

Hearts could have more fans backing them this season with 38 per cent of those polled saying that they plan on going to more games – both home and away – during the course of this season.

Watson added: "Having a full Tynecastle is obviously a massive bonus to the players out on the pitch. The fact that more people are planning on going to games, either home or away, is a reflection of the positive vibes around Tynecastle at the minute.

There's no better atmosphere than Tynecastle when it's full."
