Hearts' Bouzid wins a recall to Algeria squad

HEARTS defender Ismael Bouzid has been recalled to the Algeria international squad for the first time in more than three years, recognition of his sterling form at club level this season.

Abdelhak Benchikha, Algeria's national coach, has been impressed by Bouzid's performances during Hearts' surge towards the top of the SPL and has named the player in his squad to face Tunisia in a friendly on February 9.

Bouzid has been imperious in recent months alongside captain Marius Zaliukas as Hearts have conceded just three goals in their last 11 league matches. They are seven points behind league leaders Celtic ahead of tomorrow's meeting between the clubs in Glasgow.

Bouzid, 27, last played for Algeria late in 2007 having failed to find favour with Benchikha's predecessor, Rabah Saadane. The centre-back revealed his delight at being reinstated alongside Rangers' Madjid Bougherra.

"As a true professional, I always respected the decisions of individual coaches," he said. "I waited by working hard to be recalled. That said, this is not an end in itself. I must work harder to keep my place in the squad.

"My father called me to tell me that I am summoned for the match in Tunisia.

"Madjid Bougherra was first congratulating me. He congratulated me for our victory over Rangers (on Saturday) and he congratulated me for my call."

Bouzid's Hearts contract expires at the end of the season and the player admitted he is willing to consider any approach made to him between now and then. However, he is unlikely to be leaving Tynecastle before the summer.

"For now, I have not received any concrete offer," he said.
