Hawick 18 - 62 Currie: Currie move up to third with emphatic victory

DESPITE losing captain Richard Snedden to injury, Ally Donaldson’s team wrapped up a convincing 10-try victory and moved into third.

“Injuries caused a bit of disruption but we still managed to put together a good performance,” said Donaldson.

“I know Hawick are having a tough season, but they took Melrose to the wire last week and I think we can take a hell of a lot out of our game.

“We’ve given ourselves a mountain to climb but we are going the right way about it. If we keep playing like that we won’t be far away.”

The visitors’ intentions were clear from the start as Dave Smith and Fergus Scott both went over while Hawick’s Lee Armstrong kicked two penalties either side of a try from Currie prop John Cox.

Scott scored the bonus point try after the break and Mansfield added two more.

Steven Anderson touched down for Hawick but there were further tries from Michael Entwhistle, Ross Weston, Mansfield and Smith in reply.

Craig Russell’s late consolation try for Hawick was converted by Neil Renwick.
