Hawick 17 - 20 Heriot's

HERIOT'S put in a storming finish, scoring two quick tries with only six minutes left to take the points.

Rory Hutton had kicked Hawick into a 12-8 lead before intense pressure turned the game around in the final quarter.

Hawick's Daniel Landels, who had been denied a first-half try, scored in injury time, but it was enough only for a bonus point.

Hooker Matt Landels played his 250th game for Hawick, but Heriot's punished the home team with its creative running.

Hawick 'stole' no fewer than three Heriot's balls in the early line-outs and two Hutton penalties gave Hawick a 6-0 lead.

Referee Andrew McMenemy allowed advantage after a high tackle on Gregor Hunter, but Hawick cleared the danger. However, Graham Wilson made no mistake with his second penalty from 35 metres following a ruck offence. Defences held firm as both sides strived for a try ahead of the interval.

Hawick were denied a try on the restart when McMenemy adjudged that Danny Landels had been held up by Cameron Ferguson. But they were not to be denied and Hutton banged over his third penalty.

It was Ferguson who scored the first try after hesitancy in the home defence, but Wilson missed the conversion.

Hutton stretched the Hawick lead before Mark Lee was denied by a forward pass only for Max Learmonth to break wide open the home defence for a second try and the third by Jamie Syme completed a satisfying afternoon.
