GLASGOW Hawks held off a late Hawick challenge to take the points in a bruising encounter after Hawick were denied even a losing bonus point after Andy White's injury-time penalty.

Hawick's game was over when replacement hooker Hue Scammell was yellow-carded three minutes from the end and White kicked the crucial penalty to leave Hawick still without a home win.

Hawick got off to the best possible start with a Neil Renwick penalty in the second minute and the full back added a second 60 seconds later.

Two minutes after Renwick's penalties, the referee sent Hawick captain Bruce McNeil to the sin-bin and Hawks cashed in with a Kris Hamilton try from Kerr Gossman's break.

Renwick should have scored from Alex Dunbar's midfield charge, but Hawks took the lead at the other end with White's opening penalty.

Renwick missed two penalties from halfway before intense pressure from the Hawks forwards ended in Rory Hamilton being driven over to stretch their lead at the interval.

Hawks defended well and stretched their lead when Kris Hamilton scored that second after a kick and chase and White converted.

However, when Dean Kelbrick was yellow carded, Hawick's Rory Hutton squeezed over and converted only to be outdone by White's late score.
