hanagan and de sousa head north

THE ongoing battle for the jockeys’ championship continues apace at Musselburgh this afternoon.

Silvestre de Sousa can strike first with First Fast Now in the opening race at 2.15pm, the Scottish Racing Maiden Stakes, but Paul Hanagan has a sound chance to hit back immediately in the competitive 5f Daily Record Handicap. The champion jockey teams up with in-form trainer Keith Dalgleish to partner Blown It.

Hanagan and Dalgleish combine again in the 1m 4f handicap with the course and distance winner Chookie Hamilton, but marginal preference here will be for De Sousa’s Green Lightning. The Brazilian has struck up a lucrative association with Middleham trainer Mark Johnston and the mount is on an attractive handicap mark.
