Hall braves weather to seal semi spot

BRITISH girls championship: England's Georgia Hall overcame a good friend, a more experienced French opponent and unseasonal weather to carry Britain's hopes into today's semi-finals at Gullane No?1.

The 15-year-old from Remedy Oak in Dorset beat Wales' Chloe Williams by 3 and 2 in torrential rain in the morning and then produced some superb golf to take out France's Emilie Alonso by 5 and 3 in the quarter-finals.

Wrapped up in waterproofs, mitts and a couple of woolly hats, Hall was three under par in the afternoon. "It was hard against Chloe because she is one of my best mates," she said. "And conditions all day were terrible."

In today's semi-finals, Hall will meet Margaux Vanmol, the Belgian who knocked out Scotland's Alyson McKechin in the second round. She beat Sophie Godley 7 and 6.
