Haddington aim to blow championship wide open in vital Sauchie test

HADDINGTON will be hoping to blow the South Division title race wide open when the much-improved East Lothian side face Sauchie away tomorrow.

Stevie McLeish's team are level on points with their opponents heading into the match but have played two games more.

Fauldhouse and Livingston are also still in the title race but McLeish says Sauchie are the side in the driving seat.

"I definitely think it's in their hands, so Saturday is significant game for us," he said. "In fact, it could be monumental."

Sauchie dropped two points at Pumpherston on Monday before bouncing back with a 7-0 hammering of West Calder two nights later. "I was at the game on Monday and it could also have been 7-0," said McLeish, who has transformed the Hi Hi in his first full season in charge.

"I signed nine under-21 players at the start of the season and they have responded superbly to playing at Junior level. I suppose they've been a bit of an unknown quantity this season so the big test will come next season.

"But, no matter what happens over the coming weeks, it has been a good season for us."
