Gullane ace Lesley leaves rivals trailing

GULLANE girl Lesley Atkins was top of the class in the Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish Schools’ Championship in Perthshire.

The former Scottish Girls’ champion carded rounds of 73 and 68 at Murrayshall to claim another prestigious title by a single shot. She also helped East Lothian to third place in the girls’ team event, a decent effort considering they were missing Clara Young due to an injury.

Edinburgh duo Willem Kerr and Ross Brydon finished as the leading local players in the boys’ event, the pair tying for 15th on 146. Ross Millar, three shots back, was the leading Midlothian representative while East Lothian’s Gary Brownlee finished well back on 160. Connor Syme lifted the boys’ title with a score of 138, emulating a feat also achieved by his dad Stuart 25 years ago.
