Greig Hutcheon wins fifth Deer Park Masters title

With rounds of 64 and 72 for an eight-under-par total, Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Inchmarlo) finished one shot ahead of Clydeway Golf’s O’Hara (66-71).

On a more difficult scoring day for the second and final round, Hutcheon made his score with four birdies in a row from the ninth before slipping to a double-bogey 6 at the 17th.

He earned £2,520 for his second Tartan Tour Order of Merit victory of the season after already landing the Northern Open at Royal Dornoch.

O’Hara, winner of the P&H Championship at The Renaissance Club earlier in the year, earned £1,739 for his effort, with The Hirsel’s Daniel Wood claiming third spot on five-under (70-69).

Defending champions Scotland face England in a title decider today in the Boys’ Home Internationals at Ballyliffin in County Donegal.

Both teams head into the last-day showdown with two wins out of two, with England just topping the table on “goal” difference.

The Scots followed up their opening-day win over Wales by beating Ireland 9-6 while England beat Wales 10-5, having started their campaign with a 10-5 success over the hosts.

Scotland’s biggest singles winner was Peebles player Darren Howie, who crushed Andrew Mulhall (Waterford Castle) 7&6.

Playing with borrowed clubs, Craigielaw’s Grant Forrest opened with a three-under-par 69 in the European Individual Amateur Championship in Estonia.

The splendid effort came after seven sets of missing clubs belonging to Scottish players finally arrived after being lost earlier in the week at Amsterdam airport.

And, after prolonged discussions with European Golf Association officials, all the Scots who’d withdrawn on Tuesday night got to start after a weather delay.

Falkirk’s Ryan Campbell was the sole Scot to break par in the opening round of the PGA EuroPro Tour’s World Snooker Golf Masters at Army Golf Club.

Campbell carded a one-under-par 70 at the Aldershot venue to sit joint-24th, six shots behind pacesetter Mark Laskey after the two-time winner on the third-tier circuit equalled the course record.

Scotland suffered mixed fortunes on the opening day of the Girls’ and Women’s Home Internationals at Conwy in North Wales.

The girls beat Wales 7-2 to top their table but the women crashed 6.5-2.5 to the same opponents.
