Greenyards clash set to get go-ahead

Melrose are very confident that their British & Irish Cup match against Munster at the Greenyards tomorrow afternoon will go ahead after a monumental effort by club members and local people.

Currie's match in the same event is definitely on away at Cornish Pirates, while Ayr are travelling to Pontypridd today with the match in the balance.

The Welsh side's Sardis Road ground is recovering from snow and freezing conditions heaped on it over the last few days, but the club are confident they can get the encounter on.

However, just like last weekend, there looks to be little chance of any domestic club matches taking place leaving all clubs with fixture pile-up headaches heading into 2011.

In Melrose an army of volunteers will continue working at the Greenyards today to ensure the Munster clash gets the green light.

As of last night, most of the playing surface was clear and Melrose president Mike Dalgetty said: "It is game on as far as we are concerned and Munster are travelling today. It has been an amazing effort by everyone so far as we have moved around eight inches of snow from the pitch since Wednesday.

"Hopefully the hard work will be rewarded with a big crowd to cheer the team on tomorrow."

On the domestic front the Dundee HSFP v Boroughmuir Premier A match at Mayfield was postponed in midweek, while five Premier B and C matches are definitely off with another two very doubtful.

The matches already off are Peebles v Watsonians, Aberdeen Grammar v Selkirk, Kelso v Hillhead/Jordanhill, Jed-Forest v GHA and Kirkcaldy v Stewart's Melville.

Decisions on the West of Scotland v Gala and Biggar v Falkirk matches were due to be made first thing today and there seems little hope of any National or Regional League matches taking place.
