Grant Forrest slips to defeat

Scotland's hopes of providing a third British Boys Open amateur Champion in 12 years were dashed when Craigielaw's Grant Forrest crashed out in the third round beaten 5 and 4 by England's Samuel Edwards at Burnham and Berrow on the Somerset coast yesterday.

It was nip and tuck early on but once Edwards struck the front there was no stopping him. Forrest lacked consistency, particularly around the greens, found himself just one down at the turn. However, he fell away quickly, losing two of the next three holes and then another couple to exit the event.

In the final match to finish, Surrey-based Callum Mackay - whose father hails from Caithness - was beaten on the final green by Thomas Detry from Belgium despite having a hole in one on the 14th.
