Grainger set to double up

SCOTLAND'S three-time Olympic silver medallist Katherine Grain-ger has ended her two-year experiment in the single scull to join forces with Anna Watkins in the double in Great Britain's World Cup squad.

Grainger, who became the first woman to be named Scottish Sportsperson of the Year last year, won the single scull at the British trials in Hazewinkel, Belgium, last month, when Watkins was her main rival.

Greg Searle's ambition of competing in the 2012 Olympic Games at the age of 40 moved a step closer after he was named in the squad.

Searle, who won Olympic gold alongside brother Jonny and cox Garry Herbert in Barcelona in 1992, has clinched a seat in the men's eight after launching a remarkable comeback bid last year.

Searle was set to be joined in the eight by returning 2008 gold medallist Tom James but he will miss the first World Cup regatta in Bled later this month through injury. James is in line for a return to international action at the second World Cup regatta in Munich in June.

Pete Reed and Andy Triggs Hodge will continue in the men's pair and with James set for a seat in the eight, coach Jurgen Grobbler has also decided to leave the world champion men's four unchanged.
