Wiesberger not fazed by expectation

Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger hopes he can cope with the amazingly high levels of expectation as he prepares to defend his Lyoness Open title on home soil this week.

Wiesberger is rated a 6-1 favourite to win his third European Tour title at Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, almost the same price as world No 1 Tiger Woods is to claim a 15th major title in the US Open next week.

The 27-year-old is only in his third season on the main tour but won the
Ballantine’s Championship in South Korea last year before a final round of 65 in Austria saw him wipe out a four-shot deficit to win by three strokes.

And he comes into the event in good form having shot rounds of 64 and 66 last weekend to finish third in the Nordea Masters in Sweden behind winner Mikko Ilonen.

“Yes, there are expectations to deal with but I am in a good state of mind and playing decent golf and, hopefully, I can get into a position to compete,” said Wiesberger.
