Varsity Golf: Eggenberger leads student event

Swiss international Mathias Eggenberger carded a three-over-par 73 to consolidate his five-shot lead at Moray after two rounds of the Scottish Student Championships.

Three of his Stirling team-mates – Kit Holmes, Jack MacDonald and Patrick Spraggs – lead the chase with Aberdeen’s Ross Crummey ahead of today’s final two rounds.

A 68 by Spraggs was the best second-day effort at the Lossiemouth venue, where the only other sub-70 round was shot by Callum MacNeill (University of the Highlands and Islands).

In the ladies’ event, overnight leader Georgia Gilling (Stirling) also consolidated her advantage as she added a par-72 to her opening 76 on Moray Old.

In the team matchplay competitions, Stirling (Eggenberger, Holmes, MacDonald, Michael Howard and Zander Culverwell) and St Andrews (Stephen, Bradbury, Brain and MacDonald) took the honours.
