Tyrrell Hatton looking for caddie Mick Donaghy to make him laugh at Augusta

Augusta National is light on Scots for this week’s Masters. Sandy Lyle, the 1988 winner, is the only player flying the Saltire, while the caddie contingent on this occasion includes just Mick Donaghy.

The Glaswegian is making his return to the Georgia venue with Tyrrell Hatton, having helped the Englishman record three victories in the past 12 months - the Turkish Airlines Open and BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour and Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour.

The pair haven’t quite clicked yet in majors, with Hatton having missed the cut in both the US PGA Championship and US Open earlier this year, but the world No 9 is happy to have Donaghy at his side for this week’s novel November assignment.

“I think his experience is very important,” said Hatton of Donaghy, an old school looper. “He's certainly been around here a lot more times than I have. I know he hasn't been here for a couple of years and he's excited to be back.”

Hatton is one of those players who wears his heart on his sleeve and has had the odd volatile moment in his career. Donaghy isn’t the type who will accept any unworthy criticism and it’s a partnership that is certainly working well.

“My favorite thing about Mick? I think we get on so well, and I think that's so important when you spend as much time with a caddie,” added Haton. You have to get on well.

“He's always pretty good at kind of making me laugh, which at times I definitely need.”
