Six Scots to tee up at Turnberry for Women’s Open

A SIX-STRONG Scottish contingent will tee up in the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Turnberry later this week after two home hopefuls, Carly Booth and Vikki Laing, came through a nerve-wracking final qualifier at Irvine.

Among 12 players to progress, Booth bounced back from a disappointing last round in the Ladies Scottish Open on Sunday to card a one-under-par 73 to finish joint sixth.

Laing, who had missed the cut at Dundonald Links after two bitterly disappointing rounds of 79, joined the Comrie player after surviving a six-strong play-off got the last four places.

Having earlier signed for a 74, the Musselburgh woman secured her place in Thursday’s starting line-up by making a par-4 at the first extra hole.

The duo join Catriona Matthew, Pamela Pretswell, Kylie Walker and Sally Watson, all of whom had secured exemptions for the LGU’s flagship event.

England’s Charlotte Ellis topped the qualifying with a 69 while Swedish amateur Linnea Strom came through the play-off along with compatriot Minea Blomqvist and Linnea Strom and England’s Rebecca Hudson.
