5. Forrest fires at start and finish
It was a strong start to his second season on the circuit for Grant Forrest the 27-year-old finishing fourth in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, making the top 20 in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and tying for tenth in Oman Open. Later in the year, he added a top 15 in the Portugal Masters then a top 20 in the Scottish Open before following a run of two missed cuts in three starts towards the end of season with sixth place in Golf in Dubai Championship, closing with a career-best 63 to cement his spot in DP World Tour Championship. That didn’t go as well as he’d have liked but, nonetheless, he jumped 22 spots up the Race to Dubai from 2019 Photo: Andrew Redington
6. Drysdale denied dream win
It was so nearly a dream season for David Drysdale as the 45-year-old came tantalisingly close to landing that elusive first win. Playing in his 498th event on the circuit, Drysdale got himself into a play-off in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters against Jorge Campillo only to be denied in the end in Doha by some brilliant putting from the Spaniard as they were eventually separated after five extra holes. That effort apart, it was a bit of a struggle for him before and after the Covid-19 lockdown, with back issues not helping matters. Photo: Warren Little
7. Solid first season for Hill
In his rookie season, Calum Hill started with two top-20 finishes before missing three cuts in four events prior to the lockdown. He used that to good effect in the US, where he won twice in mini-tour events and started to find his feet on the European Tour with back-to-back top-10 finishes in the ISPS Handa Wales Open and ISPS Handa UK Championship in August. In an encouraging end to the season, the the 26-year-old Crook of Devon-based player finished 13th in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek then 14th in the South African Open at Sun City. 8. Shoot-outs not to Ramsay’s liking
Aberdonian Richie Ramsay will be bitterly disappointed to have finished 114th in the Race to Dubai - the position as two years ago. His best finish in 17 starts was a tie for 20th in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where he has a good record. It’s always been a case of tougher the better for Ramsay and some of the shoot-outs in UK Swing events probably didn’t suit him. The 37-year-old made lots of cuts, but it would have hurt him to make an early exit in the Scottish Open due to the fact he is based at The Renaissance Club. Photo: Richard Heathcote
