Ruben Lindsay wins marathon Faldo Series play-off at Ladybank

Ruben Lindsay won a marathon six-hole play-off at Ladybank to join Cameron Adam in recording a Scottish success in this season's Faldo Series.

The 16-year-old Ayr Belleisle player finished birdie-birdie in the Scottish Championship at the Fife venue before beating English challenger Joshua Berry in a sudden-death shoot-out.

Lindsay, who lives in Alloway but has used the Stephen Gallacher Foundation to establish himself as one of Scotland's top young prospects, was delighted with his latest title triumph.

"That was a new experience," he admitted. "I've only been involved in one or two-hole play-offs before. It really good fun but weird at the same time.

"I think we were both quite tense at the start of the play-off but then started to talk all the way thereafter as we got more relaxed."

Berry lipped out a couple of times for victory while his opponent also kept himself in it with a couple of up and downs before Lindsay eventually prevailed.

His success came after Royal Burgess player Cameron Adam produced an equally impressive effort to win the Faldo Series North of England Championship at St Anne's Old Links at the end of August.

"I've played in four Faldo Series events this year and they've been great fun. It's great to get a win," added Lindsay, who is an ambassador for the Stephen Gallacher Foundation.

Next up for Lindsay is a trip to Longniddry for the inaugural ProDreamUSA UK Junior Open from 19-21 October.

Two other Scots, Calum Scott and Lachlan Reynolds, finished on 216 at Ladybank, where Lorna McClymont was the leading girl on 217 alongside Gregor Graham.
