The 22-year-old West Kilbride woman carded a level-par 73 on the South Course at La Manga in the fourth circuit to stay on course to achieve the ultimate goal at the first attempt.

Needing to finish in the top 20 and ties after the fifth and final circuit, Duncan sits joint-19th on two-under and it will be mission accomplished if she can produce one final big push.

Duncan, who recovered from a nightmare start to come through a pre-qualifier at the same venue last week, birdied the second and third to be out in two-under in the fourth round.

She then came home in one-over, making a birdie-2 at the 12th but taking bogey-6s at both the 13th and 18th and also dropping a shot at the 11th.

Duncan finished strongly in the pre-qualifier, signing off with a 67, and it will be job done if she can produce something similar with mentor Dean Robertson on the bag.

With the top 60 and ties after 72 holes progressed to the final round on the South Course, Duncan has been left as the sole Scot still in the card race.

Tara Mactaggart (79) missed out by four shots on five-over, while Hazel MaGarvie (72) and Hannah McCook (74) both finished outside the top 100 on ten-over and 13-over respectively.

Germany’s Alexandra Fosterling holds a two-shot lead in the battle for the main cards after moving to 15-under following a 67 on the South Course.
