Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher have joined forces to tee up a new Junior Winter Series in Scotland, with a similar concept to the Tartan Pro Tour set up earlier in the year by the former.

Through their respective foundations, the duo are linking up with the Barrie Douglas Foundation and Junior Tour Scotland to run five events for boys and girls around the country.

The series gets underway with a two-day event this weekend at Cardrona, near Peebles, before heading to Blairgowrie on 25 October then Fortrose & Rosemarkie on 15 November.

Two other tournaments will take place in February and March at venues to be confirmed.

"This is a joint venture that came to fruition on a group chat," said Scott Knowles, manager of the Stephen Gallacher Foundation.

"All the foundations are feeling the boys and girls had missed a season due to events in 2020 being decimated by Covid-19.

"These events will be held in a safe environment and we hope they can help put a smile back on the faces of young golfers in Scotland."

Various order of merits will be running alongside the events, with girls competing in under-18 and handicap tournaments while the boys battle it out in under-18 and under-15 scratch categories.

Lawrie launched the Tartan Pro Tour earlier this year to provide playing opportunities for home-based professionals left with nowhere to play this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

That involved six 36-hole events, with Neil Fenwick playing in last week's $7 million Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open after topping an order of merit.
