Neil Fenwick set for next test

NEIl Fenwick, who carded a second-day 66 to make the cut in the recent Johnnie Walker Championship, heads the field for the Scottish Young Professionals’ Championship starting today at West Lothian.

His rivals for a title won in the past by both Paul Lawrie and Alastair Forsyth include two former amateur stars, Keir McNicoll and Paul O’Hara.

McNicoll, who sensibly took up a PGA trainee post at Gullane after struggling at the outset in his professional career, leads the Assistants’ Order of Merit after winning the recent 54-holer at Shotts.

McNicoll’s Gullane colleague, Emma Fairnie, is also in the field for the event’s fourth staging at West Lothian, as is Cardrona-attached Ailsa Bain.

“The course is in superb condition, probably the best it’s been since West Lothian became the host venue,” reported tournament director Roy Murray.
