Laing left to fly Scottish flag as amateurs lead card chase

MUSSELBURGH’S Vikki Laing is the sole Scot still standing heading into today’s final round of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School in Morocco.

A fourth-round 73 at Al Maaden in Marrakech gave Laing a six-under total and a share of 26th spot in her bid to finish in the top 30 and ties.

The field has been reduced to the leading 60 and ties for the final circuit, with Heather MacRae (73) suffering the agony of missing out by a single shot on level-par. The race also ended for Katy McNicoll (69), Pamela Feggans (73) and Kelsey MacDonald (76) after they all
finished on two-over for 72 holes.

Three amateurs are leading the fight for cards – Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn firing a 65 to sit three clear of England’s Emily Taylor (67) with South African Bonita Bredenhann (67) two shots further back in third.
Charlie Hull and Holly Clyburn survived the cut among the 2012 Curtis Cup hopefuls, the former sitting in a tie for 19th.

Meanwhile, former Walker Cup
player Michael Stewart is among seven Scottish hopefuls setting out today in the final stage of the Alps Tour Qualifying School at La Cala near Malaga.
