Katy McNicoll has fruitful day on Deeside

McNicoll scooped the pool in the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Scottish Ladies Open Tour’s Saltire Energy Classic 2 and the Saltire Energy Championship – which added the Deeside scores to the Trump International returns from Monday’s event.

First off the tee at the Bieldside course, McNicoll became the first PLGC SLOT player in four events with a sub-par score.

She shot a one-under-par 69 which stood unchallenged for the rest of the afternoon and evening and eventually won her the £850 first prize by a four-stroke margin from Pamela Feggans (Doon Valley) on 73.

First off the tee, McNicoll, 24, from Carnoustie, failed to win the Arnold Clark Aberdeen £20,000 Kia on offer for a hole in one at the first – it was one of her few bogey holes.

But after that she soon slipped back into the groove which saw her win Monday’s £1,000 top prize at the Trump International event with a two-over-par 74.

McNicoll had never even seen the Trump course and her only acquaintance with the Deeside course was as a caddie for her professional brother Keir in the Paul Lawrie Invitational last autumn. “Maybe I should dispense with playing practice rounds as I seem to get on well enough without them,” she said.
