Golf: Stirling land British Uni title

STIRLING University are British champions again after overcoming a team that had been prepped by Paul Lawrie’s caddie.

Stirling won the title showdown to the delight of performance coach Dean Robertson

Dave Kenny and Dominic Bott, who works for David Horsey, have just set up a new caddie consultancy and were hired by the University of Central Lancaster in the build up to the British Universities Team Championship at Formby.

But, taking revenge for a defeat in last year’s semi-finals, Stirling won the title showdown 6½-2½, to the delight of performance coach Dean Robertson. He said: “It was always going to be tough match and they had employed Davie and Dominic to prep them. I was extremely pleased with our focus and
application. The victory is a culmination of lots of hard work on and off the golf course with a great support team around me at the university of Stirling, most notably John Mathers.”

The win was gained without Jack McDonald, arguably Stirling’s strongest player, and the Barassie player was praised by Robertson. “Jack played a supporting role at the event as I stood him down from the team in favour of the players who had secured our place in the final whilst he was on international duty helping to win the European Nations Cup for Scotland.”

“The team was led by an emotional captain Zander Culverwell, who signed out of university golf in some style, signifying a return to good health, having been suffering from bronchitis all year, and superb form.”
