Golf: McDonald and Gibbs claim Crail crowns

Stirling’s Jack McDonald completed a wire-to-wire victory in the BUCS Student Tour Championship Finals at Crail, where the ladies’ title was claimed by Rebecca Gibbs (Kingston).

McDonald, the 2012 Scottish Golfer of the year, signed off with a level-par 72 for a 72-hole total of 291, winning by five shots from Ryan McKinstry (Queens University, Belfast).

Eight of the top ten men came from Stirling and they captured gold and silver in the team event, with McDonald leading Zander Culverwell, Craig Howie and Mathias Eggenberger to victory over their second-team rivals.

Overnight leader and new course-record holder Gibbs sealed her victory with an eagle-3 at the last, a 77 for 300 giving her a two-shot victory over Gabrielle MacDonald (St Andrews).
