Golf: Kenny proves to be top ten hit in Holland

ARCHERFIELD'S Lynn Kenny and Fifer Krystle Caithness were both inside the top ten after opening rounds of one under par 71 in the 54-hole ABN Amro Ladies' Open at Broekpolder in the Netherlands.

Kenny had a couple of bogeys and a double at the 11th, but made amends with a handful of birdies, while Caithness, eighth in Slovakia last week, recovered from dropping shots at her first two holes to also finish in a tie for ninth place and just three shots behind the surprise leader, Ireland's Hazel Kavanagh.

But it was a disappointing opening day for Vikki Laing. The Musselburgh golfer had three bogeys and a double-bogey and managed only one birdie – at the 18th – in a 77 that left her with a tough task to make the cut.

Carly Booth, the Comrie 17-year-old, who has made the cut in her first three appearances as a professional, produced another solid effort with a 74, while fellow Scottish rookie, Kylie Walker had a 76.

Laura Davies, who has already won in Germany and New Zealand this season, was in a three-way tie for second on 69 after a five birdie round and Trish Johnson, was in the next group on 70.
