Golf: David Law and David James start well in Egypt

TWO Scots made promising starts in the Red Sea Egyptian Classic, the latest event on the Pro Golf Tour.

Aberdonian David Law carded a two-under-par 70 to sit in joint-fifth, four shots behind pacesetters Tiago Cruz from Portugal and Germany’s Max Kramer. Also handily placed at Sokhna Golf Club is David James, the former Southerness player who won the European Senior Tour Qualifying School in Portugal earlier in the year.

Trying to keep his game sharp for the start of the over-50s season in June, James shot a 71 to also sit inside the top ten at the end of the first round in the e30,000 event. Law, lying fourth on the 2013 money-list, was three-under after 16 holes before dropping his only shot at the 17th.

“Good first outing with my new TaylorMade Tour Lethal ball,” reported the two-time Scottish Amateur champion on his Twitter feed. “Great control in the windy conditions.”

The other two Scots in the field, Jordan Findlay and Philip McLean, lie 31st and 68th respectively after rounds of 74 and 79.
