Golf: Calum Hill wins British Schools final

Merchiston Castle School’s Calum Hill continued his great season by winning the Independent Schools Golf Association’s British Schools final at Princes and Royal St George’s Golf Courses in Kent.

The 17-year-old won by two strokes from a field of 57 and added the title to his victories in the ISGA Scottish Open and the R&A Exeter Team Invitational. He carded a level par 36-hole aggregate of 143 (72, 71).

The Merchiston team that also included Max Brueck and Angus Roberts finished in fifth place from the 19 Area ISGA British School finalists.

“I am absolutely delighted,” said Calum. “It was a good field with some of the country’s top juniors.

“I have to thank Merchiston Golf Academy for an incredible golf programme and the coach, Alan Murdoch, has really taken my game to a different level. Alan has helped me technically, instilled a belief and taught me how to compete. Golf Fit coach Craig Tumblety, who works with all of the Golf Academy boys, must take a huge amount of credit too.”

Calum has signed a letter of intent to enrol at the University of Louisiana, Monroe, USA in the Autumn 2013 semester.
