Golf: Bass Rock give a solid showing

BASS ROCK bridged a 63-year gap to win the County Cup at Kilspindie – scene of their last triumph in East Lothian’s leading team tournament.

Represented by Fraser Symon, Michael Davidson, Edward Danks and Simon Holt, they won 8 and 6 in a derby clash against North Berwick.

Symon and Davidson finished six up on Alastair Simpson and George Cochrane at the front, while Danks and Holt won two up against Chris Wood and Weston Main.

In their 21st success in the event, Bass Rock had beaten the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers – a team including former Walker Cup captain George Macgregor – in the semi-finals, where North Berwick overcame Gullane.
