Edinburgh High School Golf League tees off in April

HIGH schools in the Edinburgh area are being invited to take part in an exciting league which has been established by Edinburgh Active Schools and is being supported by ClubGolf and European Tour star Stephen Gallacher through his junior golf foundation.

Each school has been given the chance to enter up to six players for each of the three events for the Edinburgh High School Golf League taking place from April to June.

The league will tee off at Carrick Knowe on 12 April with afternoon tee times scheduled. Players must all have handicaps and further events will take place at Craigentinny on 26 April and Silverknowes on 21 June.

Primary 7 pupils from Edinburgh schools will also be invited for the final event at Silverknowes, after which the 2013 Order of Merit winners will be presented with their prizes.

A second round of dates, for which the league will recommence, have already been scheduled for September and will consist of five rounds of golf through to 2014.

Scott Knowles, manager of the Stephen Gallacher Foundation, said: “The more competitive play we can get the kids involved in the better. Hopefully we can expand it to West Lothian and beyond.”
