Caddie Tim Tucker bidding to complete US Open double in 2020

Caddie Tim Tucker is hoping to pull off a remarkable US Open double this week as the major season draws to a conclusion in Texas.

Tucker was on Bryson DeChambeau’s bag when he won the men’s version at Winged Foot in September.

Now he’s at Lexi Thompson’s side for the women’s equivalent, which starts today at Champions Golf Club in Houston.

“Tim is great,” said Thompson, who first played in the USGA event as a 12-year-old and is making her 14th appearance this week.

“He’s used to a whole different player. I don’t carry a yardage book so I usually just ask for the pin number and where I should land it, that’s about it. I like to simplify things.

“The first day that we went out, he has the air density and all that factored in. It was unbelievable.

The first two holes he said it is going to play this number and I trusted it and hit it so close, it was a perfect number. I am truly amazed.

“Very talented and happy to have him out there helping me.”

Stacey Lewis, the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open champion, is among the Texans in the field for an event being played on two courses.

They also include Solheim Cup vice captain Angela Stanford, who claimed a seventh LPGA Tour triumph in last week’s Volunteers of America Classic, not far from her home in Dallas.

“Everybody wants to play well leading up to an Open, no matter if it's May, June, or December,” said Stanford, who will hit the championship’s first tee shot on the Cypress Creek Course, with the Jackrabbit Course also being used for the opening two rounds.

“It's a dream to even play in Texas for an Open. I think that's helped my expectations this week.”

Korea’s Jeongeun Lee6 defends the title in a field that contains a posse of English players, including amateurs Lily May Humphreys and Emily Toy.

Also among the European hopefuls are AIG Women’s Open champion Sophia Popov from Germany and Dane Emily Pedersen, who ended the LET season with three straight victories to claim the Road to Costa del Sol title.
