Later, all the competitors enjoyed a get-together with parents and the university organisers, Miranda Brain and Zhanna Tarasko, who said: “It is hard to get girls into golf and we want to encourage more to take part. Next year, we would like to invite schools from the north of England.

“At present, we have 220 members of the Ladies’ University Club and we have two students who are Scottish national players. Ailsa Summers is in the Under-21 team and Gabrielle MacDonald played in this month’s Home Internationals at Scotscraig.”

Kirsten Pryde reflected the goodwill generated by the tournament. “I’d like to thank everyone for the day. My parents and I even got shown round the University and it was much appreciated.”
