Bob MacIntyre braced for 'intense year' in battle to play in Ryder Cup

Bob MacIntyre is bracing himself for an “intense year” as he battles to be on the European team for the Ryder Cup in Rome in September.

The Oban man got off to a flying start in the year-long qualification campaign when he won the Italian Open on the Ryder Cup course at Marco Simone Golf Club in September.

He then picked up three points out of four in the inaugural Hero Cup in Abu Dhabi last month before playing in a Rolex Series double-header in the UAE.

On the back of that big run of events, MacIntyre decided to sit out the final leg of the DP World Tour’s Middle East Swing in Ras Al Khaimah last week.

But, after recharging the batteries, the 26-year-old is ready to go again in this week’s Singapore Classic then the Thailand Classic next week.

“Yeah, it was,” replied MacIntyre to being asked if it had been an intense start to the new year. “That’s why I took last week off. I had played there (at Al Hamra) before and I felt it didn’t suit me compared to the courses we are coming on to now.

“It’s not just going to be an intense start to the year. It’s going to be an intense year. It’s all guns blazing and I’ve just got to keep playing golf and enjoy it as much as I can.”

MacIntyre joins Richie Ramsay, Ewen Ferguson, Connor Syme, Grant Forrest, Calum Hill, Scott Jamieson and Marc Warren in this week’s field at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

“I’m feeling good,” added the Scottish No 1 heading into the circuit’s return to Singapore for the first time since 2014. “Had a week off last week, so I wasn’t going mental for a week. I was enjoying myself chilling out by the pool.

“The golf course this week is different but it’s good, I like it. It’s a proper test of golf. It’s just a strong golf course. Obviously it’s going to get a little bit tricked up as some of the greens have serious slopes. But, other than that, it’s a good track.”
