Another Dubai duel teed up for Lee Westwood and Matt Fitzpatrick
The English pair are among the latest players confirmed for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club on 28-31 January.Westwood and Fitzpatrick both picked up trophies on their last visit to Dubai just before Christmas.The former landed the Harry Vardon Trophy as he was crowned as European No 1 for the third time in his career while Fitzpatrick won the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates.Three other Englishmen, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey and Matt Wallace, have also committed to join the field on the Majlis Course in the second event of the new season.US-based Casey will be making his first start in the Dubai Desert Classic since 2014, having already signed up for the following week’s Saudi International as part of his bid to make the Ryder Cup team in September.US PGA champion Collin Morikawa had already confirmed his place in the 32nd staging of the Desert Classic along with Ryder Cup stars Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton.
Two-time winner Stephen Gallacher will spearhead a Scottish contingent that should also include last year’s two tartan victors on the European Tour, Bob MacIntyre and Marc Warren.With the closing date for entries more than a week away, the full Scottish representation has still to be determined, though Connor Syme, Scott Jamieson and Grant Forrest should also be in the field through finishing in the top 72 in last season’s Race to Dubai.
