Golf: Zack best for Lothians

LOTHIANS golfers had a disappointing opening day in the Motocaddy Masters, the first event on the 2010 EuroPro Tour, at Wensum Valley in Norwich.

Of the quartet in the field, Zack Saltman's one-over-par 73 was the best effort and left him just inside the top 40.

Big brother Elliot failed to make the flying start he was looking for and had to settle for a 76 after signing for a card that contained five dropped shots.

Shaun McAllister and Lee Harper were even further down the field after scores of 77 and 79 respectively.

Englishman Dale Marmion, who played in David Platt's event at Archerfield Links earlier in the year, shot a seven-under-par 65 to set a scorching pace, with Scott Henry leading the Scottish challenge after an opening 69 left him joint fourth.
