Golf: Whitewash caps cracking start for Silverknowes

SILVERKNOWES are off to a flying start in this year’s battle for the Wilkinson Shield in the Edinburgh Municipal Clubs’ golf Winter League.

They won at Lochend first time out, then made home advantage count against their big city rivals, Carrickvale.

The visitors had two new “signings” in their team after Craig Deerness, a member of the Harburn quartet that won the Lothians Team Tournament this year, and Thomas Beattie, joined the club, but Silverknowes recorded a 4-0 whitewash to set a hot early pace in the Division 1 title race.

Liberton continue to top both tables in the South East Edinburgh Winter League after a brace of wins over Craigmillar Park. Their men are unbeaten with two home wins and an away draw while the juniors have three wins from three.

On a disappointing note, however, two clubs were
unable to field six juniors to fully complete the round of
fixtures.
