Golf: Westwood to tee-off for charity

LEE WESTWOOD will be the star attraction in next week's Celebrity Invitational being hosted by Darren Clarke and Sir Ian Botham at Archerfield Links.

The world No.?3 is using the event to prove his fitness ahead of the Ryder Cup, having been sidelined with a leg injury since he pulled out of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational early last month.

While Westwood will be the centre of attention, the main objective of next week's non-spectator event is to raise at least 100,000 for leukaemia and breast cancer charities - causes which Botham and Clarke have dedicated themselves for years.

It features 26 teams and other celebrities taking part include Matt Dawson, Michael Vaughan, Sean Fitzpatrick, DJ Spoony, Tom Chaplin, Steve Cram, Mark Nicholas, Kevin Keegan and Austin Healy, as well as a number of other European Tour pros.

"We aim to make this a very special couple of days for all the guests and celebrities," said Clarke. "Having some of my pals from the Tour playing will give it a competitive edge as well."

The partners in the event this year include Jaguar, Vista Jets, Nike, Maui Jim, Ladbrokes, Adoreum Partners and Billecart-Salmon Champagne.
